Ok I've been doing a little more tinkering with the IPCRs. One little project I've had in mind for a while is to come up with stats for a mechanized infantry platoon as an IPCR mechanized infantry platoon and as a vehicle and foot infantry platoon for comparision and for different game situations.

Before we get to the stats let me say a few things. The IPCR makes mechanized infantry very abstract but it essentially assumes that the APC or IFV is close by providing cover and fire. My idea was to create a relatively light APC that fit the platoon weight requirements and the carried infantry class weapons since CBT class weapons really don't fit into the IPCRs. So this platoon's transport is 2 M15 APCs mass 15 tons armament 1 CBT MG which is equal to a MW3 Support MG in the IPCR.

When the infantry are acting as foot infantry away from the APC they would use the foot infantry stats and instead of the 2 support MGs there are 2 more semi-portable MGs. Since two infantry in the platoon are actually drivers and would stay with the vehicles they are not accounted for in foot infantry platoon stats.

When on long road marchs the infantry are in the 2 APCs and so the platoon would follow standard vehicles rules from the BMRr. When the infantry dismounts you would switch to the Mechanized Infantry Platoon record sheet made with the IPCR.

Cost for infantry platoons include training so they seem high compared to 'mechs and vehicles.

So here are the stats:

Mechanized Infantry Platoon, Tracked

Stats as Mechanized Infantry Platoon
Soldiers:
30
Weapons: 4 Semi-Portable Machine Guns, 2 Support Machine Guns, 2 SRM Launchers, 8 Federated Long Rifles with Compact Grenade Launchers attached & 14 Federated Long Rifles

Damage: Hard: 6 / Soft: 14
Base Range: 2 (6 hexes)
Protection: Flak Vest & Helmet, 2 Dots per Soldier
Platoon Cost (as Regular Quality): 4,776,856.56 C-Bills
Vehicles: 2 M15 Tracked APC’s, see below for vehicle stats

Stats as Foot Infantry Platoon
Soldiers:
28
Weapons: 6 Semi-Portable Machine Guns, 2 SRM Launchers, 8 Federated Long Rifles with Compact Grenade Launchers attached & 14 Federated Long Rifles
Movement: 1 MP* *Platoon cannot move and shoot in the same turn.
Damage: Hard: 5 / Soft: 13
Base Range: 1 (3 hexes)

Infantry Platoon Creation Rules

Combat Operations has rules for making platoons of infantry. Cool, but I'm not too likely to use 'em...

But the idea of making an entire platoon of flamethrower infantry with Inferno launchers for the support weapons....

Dude....do you have any idea how odd a snort and a laugh at the same time feel? I'm just lucky I wasn't taking a drink when I read that last line!

The computer at work would never forgive me!
