Furthermore, no one "plays" Aerotech any more. At least not in the sense of being a standalone game, which it hasn't been for quite some time now.
What do you mean? My group plays out aero battles on a regular basis. Sure, we occasionally refer to more recent published rules but we still have a copy of AT2 on hand.
When you run a full-scale campaign BT does have rules that allow gaming at various levels, from individual characters to warship on warship. Yes, we do tweak the rules here and there to help them fit the campaign but I've yet to see my group use rules out of the box without having to make clarifications and adjustments.
Asking a question that pertains strictly to BattleForce (BF) is valid- The latest rules for BF are included in CBT: Strategic Operations (CGL 35004) and you may select forces and print unit unit sheets using features in the Heavy Metal programs. If you haven't tried playing out a company on company battle using the BF rules I suggest you try it- We're talking about one mapsheet, six counters/miniatures, two record sheets and dice for a basic scenario. You can even play with yourself- But try Battleforce first.
