Are you referring to the one that had the Sommer Set Strikers with Adam Stiener and Franklin Kurita and had the silly CGI like effects for the battles? Where the heroes were piloting other things then mechs and doing it well enough you would think they were trained from birth in them? Was on TV in the mid 90s?

I do have a very poor copy of the series I downloaded from a pirate site. It's an example of American Saturday morning animation at its worst.

I brought my VHS copies off Mech Force UK, way back in the day, and I also recorded the episode "catch-up" Episode 5a, that was on (IIRC) Nickelodeon on Sky when that was shown in the UK,

Oh good days :D

Of all the things I found silly with the cartoon, the biggest was their not using it to point folks toward the boardgame, instead they used it to for a new toy line that end up costing them far more then they made off the toy line and they must have banked on the idea that the cartoon and the video-game for the PC and SNS would also mean big sales so add in the cartoon and you have a win...yet that didn't happen since they only had one season, the storyline was poorly written and didn't reflect the actual Inner Sphere background in fashion that the board game or even the video games supported and I didn't see many of the cartoon watchers cross over into fans of the computer game. So once again the lack of advertisement hurt them, you would think that after all the mistakes FASA made with this post Star Trek RPG days, hey as I said before they did at one point have ads in sci-fi mags like STARLOG, it would be logical for their successors to not repeat bad choices...yeah we see how well that worked for them.

Everything else that is peripheral in nature to boardgame (aka true Battletech) seems to get all the "cool" attention and yet the returns aren't that good. Yes the cartoon was a good idea, the outcome of it, childish, not fitting into the story line easily, too super hero-ish or more like a scifi clone of GI JOE cartoon meets TRANSFORMERS cartoon. And then the time slots and limited viewing area for the cartoon I think also killed it.

I dare say it's better than GI Joe.

I don't recall seeing any LAM. And BT novels have plenty of superhero stuff that goes way more overboard.

I make a point to avoid movies and programs based on toys and/or video games as they are primarily commercials aimed at selling products to children.

Despite the numerous BT-based toys that once made the market, GI Joe still has a sizable following- Despite the cartoons.

As a cartoon, Battletech : The Cartoon, is (very) dated CGI wise, though it was good(ish) for it's time.

Not a lot of 'Mech designs could be used as it would have confused the new audience (plus it was brought out not long after the Unseen issie IIRC so a lot of the favourites could not be used) it was aimed at - Kids, again with the Battletech Story line.

I find it a way to enjoy my self is ti waste what 20 - 25 minutes watching an episode now & again....so what I'm a Big Kid at heart. It's entertainment that's all :spiny: :D

None of the toy line featured any of the Un-seen.

Most likley, though was it playmates who ripped off the Mad Cat / Timber Wolf ? and FASA counter Sued ?. Going totally Off-Topic here.

FASA sued, lost in court, and got countersued for the unseen. They settled rather than go to trial.

In retrospec the cartoon was the beginning of the end of Battletech as we know it. Thanks to it we lost the original artwork for many of the staple mechs in the game.

Well I thought that maybe they could do a new one and actually point people to the game as well as the RPG part. Also maybe if the folks did the reboot of the Thundercats did it maybe could be fun to watch. What say you

If they ever do a new one, I think they would need to set it up so as it is a different animal then the old one. In other words, not trying to sell to both the board/miniature game players as well as the to the preteens and teenagers. Either it is a hard core hard hitting anime style cartoon that is rated for teenagers and up ala Batman and to some extent Justice League (hey the costumes on the female super heroes talk about meoooow....) or they make it for the preteens with the camp and silliness like some of the other shows on TV for cartoons now a days.

Also they need to stick to things as they are setup. A mech pilot is not going to be able to jump into something else ie a tank or power armor and go tearing off to a battle and do all he can with ease. Sorry not with out training and practice and even then he will be less skilled then the folks who do it every day and vise versa for the pilots and drivers of the other units etc...

A successful show will also have merchandise to help push the show, it would help CGL as well as bring in money to TOPPS which owns them, and keep the name in front of folks. Also it would allow the kids to learn about the universe and the events and get into things, thus opening the door to the rest of BT series and universe.

As for time of style, I would say they need to either go old school cartoon style or use the CGI stuff that is out there, but they need do it in a fashion sells the story with out the need to for over the top heroes and crazy "new" wonder weapons added to the game, which I think was a big failing of the computer games where they follow things to a point and then toss out all kinds of things to make it more playable or add in new weapons and tech just cause they can. Keeping it simple and using what is there I think would help.

But I am sure everyone has their own ideas and opinions on this...
