Yup, they seem to be down daily now for 2-3 hours... can't say I'm that surprised since, well... I warned them, but no-one ever listens to Zathras.

Of course with the ridiculously massive page sizes on the main site, I'll hardly be surprised either when in a couple months they end up with all the performance the site had a decade ago; or WORSE.

oh, side note -- they didn't move/take over the domain name properly for the old one, so www.classicbattletech.com no longer functions.

http://bg.battletech.com

is now the official location for the site.

Interesting. Now, like earlier this morning, I could not get to (C)BT through the normal link, but when going there using a link to the custom weapons link, it went fine:

http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.p ... icseen#new

Ah, I see. My (maybe your) original link there was:

http://forums.classicbattletech.com/

which currently does not work. But the new "real" location, which the above no doubt forwards to, is:

http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php

and it works fine. I've changed my bookmark to point to the new address.

That's really funny, the forums.classicbattletech.com shouldn't have worked anytime within the past four years, which is the last time it was on a subdomain... I don't think a redirect was even set up for that.

Interesting. The first I found that it didn't work was today. Although, the last several days I probably used a thread notification to go to it from. Maybe my computer's just reading my mind. ;-)

The other day, I happened to use a old link to the Battletech web site (I had to totally reformat my PC and I installed a old "saved" favorites file) and I got a blank web page with a very large warning off Virgin media (my Internet provider) warning me that this site is a known site for fraud --- or words to that effect.

OH Boy I dread to think what some body has been up to recently with the domain name !!??.

Dave.

Could that be regional? I haven't switched to the new url, and have yet to have a problem.

I have had to switch to the new url, and I live in the UK.

if its "regional" it could be different DNS ? when the ip is still same some DNS might relay you to the IP on old name.

that should not really happen but there has been news that a groop of criminals have created a botnet that detoured people to sites of their choice.
they placed a trojan or virus on ppls computer that replaced the DNS-IP with that of the botnet. ur request would than resolved by the botnet, not the actual DNS-server, and you would be connected with their stuff, for example if u tried to connect to the appstore for i-phones u were redirected to a fraudulent one defrauding u of your money. sites that are of no interest could either be resolved by the botnet (wich would explain old domain names to work) or relayed to a real DNS.
said botnet is now run by the FBI because shutting it down would mean that the infected computers would be disconnected for good(they search for the DNS at the IP of the botnet, but there is nothing, so they do not find anything and do not get connected) german news said there are about 33000 connections daily from germany alone.

BattleCorps and (C)BT seem to always be linked in times of trouble. I think they're on the same servers.

Speaking of which, my web host is moving me to a new server on Sunday 9/12 starting about 8 PM. I'm not sure if the site will be available during that time or not, but prepare for the worst. ;-)

They mentioned Pacific, but then they also mentioned 5 PM. So I got 8 PM EST from that.
